Convict Notes
Thomas Austin was 23 years old on arrival in VDL, and was transported for stealing 2 fowls. Thomas had been imprisoned before; 3 months and 2 months for poaching. Thomas had a mole on back of neck, light brown hair and eyes, was single, 5'3 1/4" tall. 18/1/1840: Sharland/ being awol and drunk and other misconduct - 25 lashes. 21/6/1841: Sharland/charged with stealing 1 iron bar value 6d., and with it entering the storeroom with intent to steal therefrom, 1 pair of red gloves, 1 pair of scissors - term of transportation extended 20? months and returned to the Government. 1841: Drunkenness and neglect of duty - admonished. 19/2/1842: Stanfield/awol nd refusing to work - 36 lashes. 8/12/1844: TOL 2/3/1850: COF 1846: Married Ann Kelly (Garland Grove) at Campbell Town, Tas., they had 6 children. 1/3/1868: Died at Launceston, Tasmania.
