She carried the thirteenth of 37 shipments of male convicts for Western Australia. The 1854 voyage took 79 days and the Ramillies arrived in Fremantle on August 7, with 94 passengers and 277 convicts (1 death recorded on voyage). (The passengers comprised 30 Pensioner Guards and their families.)

Convict Notes




Conditional pardon 10th May 1856. He was shipped from Fremantle to Melbourne by the Swallow. He had eleven children with Harriett Ward and then married her 27th September 1887. He was my great great grandmother’s brother.




William Ayres had already spent 7 years in prison, or on the Hulks, choosing to be transported gave him the opportunity to be 'free' with a TOL virtually on arrival and a Conditional Pardon soon after. William Ayres was 28 years old on arrival in WA. William was single, 5'2" tall, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, grey eyes, middling stout, pockpitted. Occupation: teamsman. 29/8/1854: TOL 10/5/1856: CP 10/5/1857: To South Australia per Swallow.
