Convict Notes
26/12/1789 The Ipswich Journal Suffolk, England: Wednesday was committed to Norwich Castle, by William Taylor, Esq. Philip Bacchus, William Hobbs and Charley Spruce, all of this place. Sawyers, old offenders, charged on oath, of stealing from out of a stable belonging to Mr. John Carpenter of Mautby, farmer, on Saturday night, 14 geese, his property ; nine were found in Bacchus's house, just plucked. Also stand further charged on oath of the said Bachus, (who is admitted an evidence) with feloniously stealing and carrying away, about Christmas 1787, 15 geese the property of Mr. Edward Rising, farmer at Mautby, from out of an outhouse. They have carried on this practice for several years. Bacchus has been transported 14 years, for stealing 3 horses. (Must have served the time on the Hulks). Philip Bacchus arrived on the 'Albermarle' 1791. 1795: Married Elizabeth Elliot/t at St. Phillip's, Sydney. No further reference found.
