John Bacon alias Wisby trial was on 18th October, 1836 and was sentence to Life. Was granted Ticket of leave on 29th November, 1843. This information was on Ancestry that John Bacon was tried for housebreaking and sentenced to life in 1836 at Essex, England,. He was transported on the convict ship "Charles Kerr" which left Spithead, Hampshire, England on 8th June, 1837. The "Charles Kerr" arrived at Port Jackson, Sydney, New South Wales on 9th October, 1837. His physical discription was noted as five foot seven inches, fair and freckled complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes with two small moles. He was granted a ticket of leave at Dungog, New South Wales and a conditional pardon recommendation of 14th August, 1847. In the New South Wales Convict Indents in 1837 John Bacon, alias Wisby aged 19 years old, could not read or write, religion Protestant and was single, from Essex, occupation Shoemaker, crime Housebreaking, Court Essex Quarter Session on 18th October, 1836 and got Life. His height was 5 feet 7 inches, with Fair and freckled complexion, hair Brown, Eyes Dark hazel, markings Small red mole right side of neck, mole upper right arm, two small burnt marks below right elbow, two small moles upper left arm. In 1842 John Bacon alias Wisby was refused marriage to Charlotte Dunn (Disallowed the regulations laid down by the local Goverment will not permit of a male Convict holding a indulgence to Marry). John Bacon alias Wisby married Ann Cocking on 24th March, 1845 at Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia and They had 9 children together. John Bacon (alias Wisby) was granted a Ticket of Leave on June 3rd 1846 on the recommendation of Dungog Bench. (NSW State Records item No. 4/4262 reel 975) A Conditional Pardon was received November 1st 1848. John Bacon died on 5th November, 1866 of Brights disease of the kidneys - 9 weeks. He is buried at Christ Church Burial Ground, New South Wales. His burial records show that he was living at Thalaba, near Dungog.
