The following convicts were removed from our county gaol on the... inst., and conveyed to Chatham previously their being transported pursuant to their respective sentences, viz.: —Wm. Received from Warwick Gaol 11 May 1826 Wm Bagnall, age 29, Horse Stg, Convicted at Warwick, 25 Mar 1826, Life, To NSW 17 Sept 1826.
23/3/1826: Leeds Intelligencer: - Thomas Clegg (21), and William Bagnall (23), charged with assaulting and robbing on the Kings highway, at Sheffield, William Priestly, of Coal Aston, in the County of Derby, in December last. Guilty, - Judgement of death recorded. Date of Commitment: 31st December 1825 Thomas Clegg, 21, and William Bagnall, 23, charged upon the oath of William Priestley, of Coal-Aston, in the County of Derby, farmer, for that on the 16th of December last, they the said Thomas Clegg and William Bagnall did, at Sheffield, in the West-Riding, on the King’s highway there, violently assault the said William Priestley, and feloniously steal from his person a black leather pocket-book, containing two Sheffield guinea notes; one Sheffield pound note, one Wirksworth pound note, and a copy of John Hopkinson’s Will, the property of the said William Priestley. GENERAL GAOL DELIVERY on Saturday 18th March 1826 William Bagnall ) Thomas Clegg ) Guilty of Highway Robbery. Judgement of death Entered on record Against them. Reprieved.
