Benjamin Bailey was convicted of having on the 18th of May, broken into the shop of Benjamin Betts, of Little Thurlow, and stolen two chisels and other tools. To be transported for fifteen years. Bury And Norwich Post, 12 Aug 1840 Thomas Bailey (20), Benjamin Bailey (17), and Matilda Ewer (26), were indicted for a burglary in the house of William Goodchild, of Cheveley . Cambridge General Advertiser, 29 July 1840. ... Ewer, were indicted for having broken into the house of William Goodchild, of Cheveley, on the 10th of June last, and stolen a musical snuff-hox, and other articles. The snuff-box was pledged by the female prisoner at Halstead, where the three prisoners all slept in one room, at the Rose and Crown, on the night of the I4th of June. Benj. Bailey was acquitted: the other two were found guilty, and sentenced to be transported for life. Thomas Bailey having  been likewise convicted of stealing a quantity of beverteen, &c. from Robert Adams, tailor, of Barwell. Norwich Mercury, 8 Aug 1840.

Benjamin was 18 years old on arrival, his brother Thomas was also on board. He was born at Chavely near Newmarket, Cambridgeshire. Benjamin was 5'2" tall, single, can read, florid complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, Anchor BB on right arm, half moon and heart EP on left arm. Father: Joseph, a labourer at native place. Brothers: Thomas (on board) John and James Sisters: Isabella, Mary Anne. 25/2/1842: In hospital with diarrhea. 30/6/1849: TOL (Launceston Examiner) 27/12/1851: CP recommended 4/6/1853: CP granted.
