John Bailey was transported on the Waterloo, departing 18th Nov 1834 and arriving 3rd Mar 1835 with 226 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

First marriage to Ellen O'halloran, a free lady in 1842. First child Francis John Born 1846 a daughter Ellen Albinia born 1848. Johns wife died the day after giving birth. He married Susannah Garrett, no children to this marriage, then after Susannah's death he married Rose Ann Spratt and had another 5 children. He died at Fitzroy Victoria in 1875. Occupation listed as butcher.




John was 20 when he was convicted of stealing clothing plus a black mare..hence the life conviction. He could read & write. His parents names were Francis John & Lucy ??.He married his first wife Ellen O'Halloran on 12/12/1842 having 2 children. Ellen died in 1846. His second wife was Susannah Garrett who he married in 1850. Could find no children to this union. He was granted a ticket of leave in 1843 & pardoned in 1845 having worked for the Colony Police Force for 7 years. He was the licencee of the Woolpack Inn at Falmouth St Avoca Tasmania being granted a liquor licence on the 31/12/1859. His third marriage was to Rosanna Spratt in 1868 of which there were 8 children. He died 5th May 1875 at Fitzroy Victoria.
