CRIME: John Robertson and John BAILLIE were tried on 2 September 1831 in the High Court at Stirling "for the crime of theft, habit and repute at Bridge Street, Alloa". John Robertson, son of John Robertson, weaver, was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment - 9 months. John BAILLIE, alias William ROSS, was found guilty and sentenced to transportation - 14 years. The victim was James Adamson of Bridge Street, Alloa (see National Records of Scotland, Reference JC26/1831/244). In his VDL Conduct Record his crime is described as shop robbery. He was single on arrival in VDL. He was granted a Conditional Pardon on 1 January 1842, and received his Free Certificate in 1845 (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-5$init=CON31-1-5p8).
