National Records of Scotland Reference JC26/1827/87 Title Trial papers of William Bain, weaver, David McIntosh, journeyman baker, and John McPherson, blacksmith, prisoners in the tolbooth of Inverness, and John Fraser, brass founder, son of and now or lately residing with Donald Fraser, brass founder in Castle Street of Inverness, for the crime of robbery. Dates 20 September 1827 Description First day of trial: 20 September 1827 Bain pled guilty. Found guilty in terms of confession. Sentenced to transportation beyond the seas for 14 years. McIntosh pled not guilty. Found guilty. Sentenced to transportation beyond the seas for 14 years. McPherson pled not guilty. Found guilty. Sentenced to transportation beyond the seas for 14 years. Fraser failed to appear. Decerned and adjudged to be an outlaw and fugitive from His Majesty's Laws. Put to the horn. High Court of Justiciary. North Circuit, Autumn: Inverness. David McIntosh and John McPherson were onboard. William Bain was listed as 21 years old on arrival. William could read, was single, 5'5¼" tall, dark ruddy complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, small scar on left side of chin, large scar on the back of right hand and 2 small ones over right eye. Assigned to Thomas Hymans, Sydney. Occupations: Weaver/farm labourer in Scotland and Labourer in NSW. 31/12/1834: TOL Maitland - Allowed to remain in the District of Maitland on the recommendation of the Sydney Bench, 30/11/1834. 27/9/1842: COF - aged 34, a labourer, 5'6¾" tall. 3/8/1853: Married Mary McLean at East Maitland.
