Lydia Bakewell was convicted at Cheshire on 27/1/1842 for receiving stolen sugar and tea. 14yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Garland Grove' arriving 1843. Widow; 1 child - Robert, in Staffordshire with Hannah Lucas; C of E religion; read & write; fair complexion; dk brown hair; Hazel eyes; aged 37yrs; servant; native place - London. Assignments of service in the Colony. Permission to marry granted: (1) to James Cresey or Cressey (free) 15/07/1844 (ref. 1096/1844-37). N.B. His proper name was "Maldon" and discovered to have been already married and duely charged with Bigamy on 4/3/1845, found guilty & given a 6yr sentence (wife Mary Ann Odie). (ref. report in Colonial Times 8/3/1845). Lydia then marries: (2) to Stephen Dunn (per Sir George Seymour) 02/02/1847 (ref. 741/1847-37) - Lydia's surname on index is "Beakwell". Ticket of Leave 10/2/1845. Conditional Pardon granted 1849.
