This James BALAAM is the same James BALAAM as the one who sailed on “Pestonjee Bomanjee”, 16 April 1852, here; https://convictrecords.com.au/convicts/balaam/james/31469 His conviction date, 30th June 1848, is seen on both Ancestry sources. “Nile”, 1850; https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discoveryui-content/view/121976:1180 “Pestonjee Bomanjee”, 1852; https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discoveryui-content/view/75492:1180 The difference is that in the image of the 1850 “Nile” voyage, James BALAAM is crossed through and marked "withdrawn". James not reaching Tasmania during 1850 is further evidenced by his June 1850 Prison record showing him in "Hospital" and Sept 1850 Prison entry showing "11th July to Defence" (presumably the Alverstoke "Defence Invalid Convict Depot") - After the Nile has sailed. He then appears as "J.B of Polstead" in Alverstoke for the 1851 UK Census at the Defence Invalid Convict Depot. see MZ1B-FLW on Family Search. his wife was also transported, see MD3X-F9W.
