Convict Notes
Thomas was convicted in Lewes, Sussex, of horse stealing on 29 July 1820. Sentence of death, commuted to life. He was about 5'8", had a ruddy complexion, light brown hair and hazel eyes. In Sydney he was sent as a labourer to William Hassell at Bathurst. Ticket of leave TL 29/537 was granted in 1829. Conditional pardon CP 44/7 was granted on 1 Feb 1843. He married Mary Jackman in 1843 in Bathurst. She died in 1868 in Bathurst. Thomas married Jane Eliza Wyborn (aged 16)on 12 Nov 1868. Both marriages were childless. Thomas died on 17 March 1882 in Bathurst, and is buried with his wife Mary in Bathurst cemetery.
