Family connections for Thomas (Balding) are: BALDING Thomas (Balden/ing/Baldon/Baldwin) was born about 1794, perhaps at Farley Berkshire & became a basketmaker. He was tried for highway robbery of goods of Ann (Parsons) of Sixpenny Handley at Dorchester Dorset Assizes, sentenced to death reprieved to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 31 12 1818 after a voyage of 5.5months on GENERAL STEWART; he was Protestant 5'1.75" dark sallow complexion black hair dark eyes. He was employed at Pennant Hills on 8 9 1821. He married with permission Eliza (Patfield age15) on 31 7 1822 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. In 1822 he was working as a basketmaker assigned to Pennant Hills Govt. Timber Establishment & in October 1823 he was assigned to his wife. He was assigned in 1828 to James (Foulcher) publican Parramatta: notably away from his wife. He died on 2 3 1829 age37 at Parramatta. On 17 10 1821 she was involved in making of clothes for foreign order without payment at Female Orphans Institution. In 1828 she was at Bathurst: notably away from her husband. On list of all persons victualled from H.M. Magazines (Reel 6016; 4/5781 p.89) 1822 Jul 9: Re permission to marry at Parramatta; listed as Balden (Reel 6009; 4/3506 p.11) 1823 Oct 30: On list of prisoners assigned (Fiche 3290; 4/4570D p.12) 1822: Worked as a basketmaker, and was assigned at the Pennant Hills Government Timber Establishment. 31/7/1822: Married Eliza Patfield at St. John's, Parramatta - Eliza was BIC and was 15 years old. Listed as Balden on the NSW BDM. Oct. 1823: Assigned to his wife. 1828: Thomas was re-assigned to James Foulcher, a publican at Parramatta and Eliza was living in Bathurst. 2/3/1829: Thomas died at Parramatta, aged 37 years.




Dorchester Lent Assizes were not terminated till late on Saturday night of the 14th instant. The following prisoners received sentences as under :— ... Thos.
