Convict Notes

11/9/1855 Sydney Morning Herald: CENTRAL POLICE COURT. Lawrence Baldwin, charged by his wife with having threatened her life, was ordered to give sureties to keep the peace, or to be imprisoned until the Quarter Sessions ; and, there being reason to believe, as well from his wife's evidence as from that of Dr. Rutter, that his mind was somewhat impaired, it was directed that the warrant of commitment should contain a suggestion to that effect. 10/1/1856 Sydney Morning Herald: Lawrence Baldwin, a man bereft of reason, and subject to paroxysms of rage against his wife, who has several times been compelled to call in the police for her protection, was again brought before the Bench for having threatened the life of his wife. The apprehending constable said that he found the man quiet enough, and willing to come with him, but the sight of his wife made him exceedingly violent. Required to give sureties to be of good behaviour for three months, or in default of these to be imprisoned for one month. 1860: Possible death - died Sydney - Parents James and Bridget.
