Personal Indent Record: Born abt 1775 at Burleigh Edge, Staffordshire, England. Had previously served 4 yrs in prison in England for stealing - records should exist for this. Wife - Elizabeth Ball, at Nottingham. 1 son and 1 daughter married and live near native place. 2 sons and 4 other daughters. Protestant religion. Ticket of Leave (TL): published in the Govt. Gazette 12 Dec 1843. Dec 25 1845: Drunk, on Christmas Day. Conditional Pardon: approved 1845. (Conditional Pardon's usually meant a person could move to other Colonies but not return to England - a Free Pardon would need to have been issued. Jacob Ball remained at Campbell Town (midlands, Tasmania) and worked as a Blacksmith. No record of any further offences. No record of a remarriage. No death notice or obituary found in the newspapers of the day. Death: 9 May 1853 at Campbell Town, Van Diemen's Land. Cause: "decay of nature". Aged 77 yrs. Blacksmith. Jacob Ball was 56 years old on arrival in VDL and was transported for stealing wearing apparel. Jacob was married - wife Elizabeth at Nottingham and 8 children, and was born at Burleigh Edge, Stafford. Jacob was rather deaf, light grey eyes, 5'6 1/4" tall, could read and write. 1832: Assigned to Mr Trennery 1833: Assigned to Capt. Wood 1835: Assigned to Samuel Hill Esq. 23/2/1843: Hat a TOL 14/1/1845: CP 1853: Jacob died at Campbell Town, Tasmania.
