Philip Ball was convicted at Oxford on 27/02/1836 for sheep stealing. Previous convictions for poaching. Life Sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the Eden, arriving 22/12/1836. Native Place: Alstone, England. Married, wife Sophia (at native place). 1 child, although later on in record it states 2 children. Aged 26yrs on arrival; 5'10 3/4"; brown hair; grey eyes; fresh complexion; tatoos; farm labourer. Gaol Report: character & connections, bad. Hulk Report: good Ship Surgeon's Report: good Some records of minor misconduct. Applied for permission to marry Elizabeth Carpenter (free) - ref. 52/1/2 pg 275. Philip Ball (aged 32yrs) married Elizabeth Carpenter (aged 24yrs) at Launceston, Tasmania on 07/10/1844 (ref. Launceston district, 903/1844-37) (Note: Remarriage was permitted in the Colony, despite any previous marriage in England, and approved by Government.) Child: Philip Ball baptised 26/05/1845 (no birth date registered) at Evandale (ref. 2716/1845-32) Cannot locate a death for Philip Ball on the Tas Index (to 1899).




Later pardoned for good service - three year with the constabulary and married Elizabeth Carpenter, a servant in Oct 1844 in Launceston, Tasmania Australia
