I am a direct descendant. Just want to add that Thomas Ballard aka Bollard has no death registration on NSW BDM. Nor any burial as in article on TROVE. After his death, his wife Amelia was left with debts especially unpaid rates
Certificate of Freedom No. 46/410 Tried 26 March 1839
Registered as Ballard, but mostly used Bollard. Thomas Bollard/Ballard was 30 years old on arrival. Thomas was maried with 1 male and 2 female children. 1846: COF 1850: Lived at Hardwick Yass in 1850. Hardwick was one of three early historic properties established in the early 1800’s, Cooma Cottage, Douro and Hardwicke, by Henry and Cornelius O’Brien. 26/8/1850: Married in the Presbyterian Church, Yass area. The had 9 children. Thomas was about 55 years old in 1862. He spent time at the Araluen goldfields in the early 1850's, then worked as a manager of Middlingbank Station near Cooma, and then to Molonglo Station. Emma was born in the Colony, and at the time of her death on the 31st July 1912, she was living with her son James, at 61 Buckland St Chippendale Sydney. 5/1/1881 The Manaro Mercury: Deaths. — Mr. Thomas Bollard, an old resident of Manaro, died at his residence in Commissioner-street, Cooma, yesterday morning. Deceased had been confined to his bed for months past. He has left a widow and young family entirely unprovided for.
