Convict Notes
As well as possessing the delightfully described "extraordinary volubility of speech" 28 year old Patrick Bambridge was 5 ft 6 3/4 inches tall, and with a dark sallow complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. (per ship's indent) As a Land surveyor, and an educated person, he would have been granted his Ticket of Leave immediately after arriving - Ticket of Leave No. 1961. However, it was withdrawn for disorderliness in July 1820 (Col Sec's papers).
COUNTY KILDARE ASSIZES. The Assizes for this County terminated at Athy, on Saturday last, -when twenty-six persons were convicted and sentenced as follows :—Wm. Donaghoe, for the Robbery of Colonel Lamb’s house ; John Doyle, John Dell, Wm. Creed, Thomas Quinn, for Burglary and Robbery of Potatoes ; Matthew Byrne for horse-stealing, John Flinn and George Darley, for burglary and robbery, and Patrick Bambrick for stealing five cows and a mare,- were all sentenced to Death, the others were sentenced to seven years transportation. Saunders News-Letter, 22 July 1817. -------------------------------------------------- Kildare, Athy July 17. Patrick Bambrick, a man of respectable appearance, and extraordinary volubility of speech, was capitally convicted, and received sentence of death, for feloniously taking and driving away five cows. In the colony, Patrick formed a relationship with Catherine Delaney (Convict, Rolla, 1803). She had previously been in a relationship with Thomas Green (Convict, Royal Admiral, 1800) and had several children with him. Thomas had died in 1815, whilst carrying out duties as a constable. She and Patrick had 2 children. It would seem that Patrick must have died C1824-1826. He is NOT recorded in the 1828 census. Catherine is however, being married to Richard Selby (Convict, General Hewett, 1814). Her children by both Thomas Green and Patrick Bambridge are recorded as being lodgers of Richard Selby.
