After leaving England on 11th May 1828, the Ship 'Borneo' hit a fierce storm rounding Cape Horn and suffered so badly that she had to make port in Hobart, Van Demons Land on 8th October 1828, sickness had also plagued the journey. Prudence had become very ill on the voyage and was taken directly from the sick bay of the ship to Hobart Hospital, where on 22nd October she died. Her 2 daughters Mary Ann and Sarah Prudence eventually continued their trip to join their father. They arrived in Sydney on 28th December 1828.
