On Saturday week, Mr. Farlow, head police officer of this town, having received  information that persons of suspicions appearance had been offering for sale quantity leather, shoemakers' tools, shoes, &c. at some shops in the Castle Foregate, he proceeded tea lodging boss. in that part of the town, kept by a person of the name of Pugh, and apprehended the three following individuals John Jackson, aged 17, Edward Barlow, alias Needham, aged 19, and Elizabeth Lee, alias Davenport, a good-looking girl, aged 18. In their possession were found a large quantity of wearing apparel, a gurstock, in addition to the articles above named. Mr. Farlow took them before Andrew Spearman, Esq. one of the borough magistrates, on suspicion of felony, and they were committed to prison for further examination, with orders to be kept separate, each of them having given contradictory statements; and Mr. Farlow wrote to the police of the adjoining towns, and a description of their persons, and a list of the articles found their possession was inserted in the Police Gazette, and met the eyes of Mr. W. Adamson, high constable of the Hundred of Macclesfield, who immediately recognised the description as answering that of parties he was in search of. He accordingly came to Shrewsbury Wednesday evening, and yesterday attended before the mayor and other magistrates, and Welled the male prisoners as belonging to a gang who are Inspected of having committed two burglaries during the month of November. The wearing apparel found in their possession answers the description of property stolen from one of the houses in Cheshire. The magistrates ordered that they should be taken back to the gaol to be discharged immediately, in order that Mr. Adamson might at once apprehend and remove them to Macclesfield. On their way thither, Barlow said to Mr. Adamson, I have often been at Shrewsbury, and wish I had never seen it. I suppose I shall never see it again; you've done for me now. We are informed that Barlow, although so young, has been an inmate of Knutsford gaol no less than six times, on charges of felony and poaching, Jackson has been twice committed a vagrant; and their chere amie, Elizabeth Lee, has been twice incarcerated as a common prostitute. Mr. Farlow has now in his possession a quantity of leather supposed to have been stolen by the prisoner. Some of it is marked W. 2.8. —Shrewsbury Chronicle. Chester Courant, 10 Dec 1839
