The following report possibly applies to this John Barlow. July Salford Sessions. PICKING POCKETS. John Barlow was charged with picking the pockets of a person named Perkins, of a pocket book and silk handkerchief, on the 21st of May last, while he was looking at one those nuisances, termed shows, in Shudehill. The jury found the prisoner guilty. The learned Chairman said the crime of picking pockets, had lately increased to a most alarming extent, much so, that scarcely a market day passed without several offences of this sort being committed and under such circumstances, as shewed the depredators to be adepts in the art. The habits of the prisoner were such as left no hope of any reformation in his conduct. He had been twice before convicted for similar offence, and he had been discharged only one month, when he was again found in this shew at his old   old practices. The court was determined to visit this offence with very rigorous measure of punishment in future, and the sentence on the prisoner therefore was, that he be transported for seven years.
