Convict Notes

Sarah Barnes got pregnant on the voyage over and had a baby just after arriving. Alfred Jones married another convict Sarah Barnes/ Provost/Jones in 1847 in Port Macquarie NSW. They are buried in Walcha NSW. We don't know whether she was married when she was deported but her birth name was Sarah Provost.

Sarah's maiden name is Provost. It is not clear where the name 'Barnes' is from - no record can be found of a marriage prior to coming to Australia. Sarah married fellow convict, Alfred Richard Jones on 19 Apr 1847.
