Family connections for Sarah (Barnes) are: BARNES Sarah (Barnes) was born on 16 11 1775. She was tried for grand larceny (stealing pewter pots etc of Thomas (Elliott), on 7 1 1790, at probably Old Bailey on 13 1 1790, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship MARY ANN; she was Protestant. She married James (Bradley) on 12 8 1792 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced 12children. She became Free by Servitude before 1796. She died on 9 7 1853 age77 at Kissing Point & was buried at St Annes CofE? church Ryde [Noted however, a Sarah (Barnes) free, died on 7 8 1814 age38 & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney]. He was charged with stealing a handkerchief at Old Bailey in June 1785, sentenced to 7years, held probably at London/Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 1 1788 after being on board for 12months on First Fleet ship SCARBOROUGH; he was Protestant. He received 25lashes for insolence on 23 2 1789. He married Sarah (Barnes) on 12 8 1792 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. On 20 2 1794 he was granted 30acres at Eastern Farms/Kissing Point/Putney which he farmed. He became Free by Servitude before 1795. He died on 15 2 1838 age73 at Kissing Point & was buried at St Annes CofE? church Ryde. Old Bailey: SARAH BARNES, Theft > grand larceny, 13th January 1790. Reference Number: t17900113-90 Offence: Theft > grand larceny Verdict: Guilty Punishment: Transportation SARAH BARNES was indicted for stealing, on the 7th of January, eight quart pewter pots, value 8 s. six pint ditto, value 2 s. the property of Thomas Elliott . THOMAS ELLIOTT sworn. I am a publican , at the Plow, King's-gate-street, Bloomsbury . My boy informed me he had lost eight quarts and six pints, on the 7th of this month. JACOB FREEMAN sworn. On Thursday, the 7th, about ten o'clock, I was informed some things were in Cross-lane, at a house there; I went and forced the door open, and found the prisoner there, walking about the room; and this pan was on the fire; and this metal on the fire; and this pot partly melted in the pan: she endeavoured to conceal it; and throwing some water on it, had like to have scalded us both. I found in the room these six quart pots: I have had them ever since in my possession. EDWARD HUGHES sworn. I was in the room with Freeman, and found these pots, and the pan on the fire. Elliott. I missed them on the 7th of this month, about nine in the morning; my name is upon five of them, and this is half melted; two of them has Mrs. Gill's name, who kept the house before me; I took every thing in the house, when she left it. PRISONER's DEFENCE. I was out of the house when the pots were brought in. I know they took the opportunity to take them into my room while I was out. GUILTY . Transported for seven years. Sarah was 15 years old on arrival in NSW. 12/8/1792: Married James Bradley (Scarborough 1788)and had 10 children. 1828 Census: Bradley, James, 64, free by servitude, Scarborough, 1788, 7 years, Protestant, labourer, Kissing Point, 30 acres, 20 acres cleared, 5 cultivated Bradley, Sarah, 53, Mary Ann, 1791, 7 years, Protestant. 9/7/1853: Sarah died at Kissing Point and is buried in St. Anne’s church cemetery, Ryde NSW. James died on 16 Feb 1838 at Kissing Point and is buried in St Anne’s church cemetery Ryde also.
