Ellen Barrett was the wife of John Barrett (Guildford 1827). Ellen was convicted of stealing cloth and John of receiving it - Ellen was the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Mellow. Ellen was 42 years old when convicted, and she arrived with her 3 year old daughter Mary, she also had to leave 5 children aged 4 to 14 years behind. Ellen was 5'2" tall, fair freckled complexion and could read, brown/grey hair, hazel eyes. 1811: Ellen (Simpson) married John Barrett at Ribchester. 1828 Census: Ellen was with John and Mary at the property of William Elyard at Camden. Ellen had 2 more children, Joseph in 1829 and Theresa in 1832. 1830: TOL, Illawarra 23/6/1834: COF 1841: Two of Ellen and John's sons arrived per 'Archilles" with their wives and they settled in the West Dapto area. 22/4/1875: Ellen died and was buried at the West Dapto Catholic Cemetery with John and many of their descendants.
Convicted of stealing 46 yards gingham and 4 yards ribbon. On her arrival, Ellen was assigned to Simeon Lord who was a magistrate and merchant of Sydney.
