Tuesday, Laurence Barry, James Barry, Patrick Barry and John Sheedy were placed at the bar for wilful murder of Thomas Burke, near Thurles, on the 5th of March last. The Barrys were found guilty of manslaughter—Sheedy was discharged. Limerick Chronicle, 24 March 1832.

His youngest grandson, Patrick Joseph Barry, moved to Western Australia in the 1920’s and had 3 sons: John Augustus, Peter Terry and Derry Patrick.

James had 2 brothers, Laurence & Jeremiah, who were convicted and transported with him and who all ended up in the Yass District. James was a blacksmith in the main street in Yass. His son John and grandson Gus later continued the business till the 1930s Depression. James married another ex-convict Sarah English with whom he had 13 children.
