Tuesday, Laurence Barry, James Barry, Patrick Barry and John Sheedy were placed at the bar for wilful murder of Thomas Burke, near Thurles, on the 5th of March last. The Barrys were found guilty of manslaughter—Sheedy was discharged. Limerick Chronicle, 24 March 1832. Patrick seemed to have been known as Darby and Jeremiah in NSW and on NSW records.

Darby had 2 brothers, Laurence and James, who were also convicted for the same crime and transported with him. They all lived in the Yass area.In 1844,Darby married Honora Hannon, then 21, and they had 10 children.
