Convict Notes

New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records Offence; Cow Stealing 1826 - New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, Tasmania. 1826 No; 531 Name; John Barry Ship arrived by; Dalphne To whom assigned/Occupation; CONSTABLE

John Barry was 46 years old on arrival in NSW and was born in Kilblain, Ireland. No crime listed. Colonial Secretary: BARRY, John. Per "Daphne", 1819 1819 Sep 28: On list of convicts disembarked from the "Daphne" and forwarded to Windsor; for the Windsor Road (Reel 6006; 4/3500 p.275) 1822 Jun 2: On list of prisoners assigned (Fiche 3290; 4/4570D p.7) 1822 Jun 6: Convict assigned to Joseph Archer of Port Dalrymple. Details from indent of transmitted to Lieutenant Governor Sorell (Reel 6009; 4/3505 p.391) June 1822: John arrived in VDL per ‘Castle Forbes’ John was then described as 50 years old, a farm labourer, 5’5 ½” tall, brown to grey hair, grey eyes. Here it gets a little confusing as there was a John Barry who arrived on the ‘Castle Forbes’ in 1820, it landed 4 convicts in NSW and 136 landed in VDL – he was also tried at Cork but got a life sentence and it seems these two prisoners are mixed together as it says on LINC that ”HE” arrived per ‘Daphne’ to NSW.
