The Convict Indentures state that Mary Barry was 16 years old. She could neither read or write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of Dublin County. She was a nursery maid. Mary was convicted of stealing a cloak at Dublin City on 14 August 1837 and sentenced to 7 years. She had two prior convictions and served 12 months and five months. Physical attributes: Height 4 feet 9 1/2 inches, complexion ruddy; hair brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 21. Prisoner number 21-38. Received Certificate of Freedom in 1844 (number 44/1707).
