On Tuesday, at the Assizes of Waterford, John Walsh and John Doyle were convicted highway robbery, and sentenced to death. Michael Barry, for highway robbery on Michael Maguire, of Bally…., who was also found guilty, and received sentence of death. Westmeath Journal, 29 March 1827.

WATERFORD SPRING ASSIZES. CITY COURT—MARCH 20. John Walsh and John Doyle were indicted, that they, on the 13th day of February last, did assault and take from the person of John Walsh a 30s. and £1 note, and some silver. They were both found guilty. Michael Barry was put to the bar, charged with having, on the night of the 20th of October last, violently and feloniously assaulted Michael M‘Guire, and taken from his person 30s. A verdict of guilty was returned. The Learned Judge then ordered John Walsh, John Doyle, and Michael Barry, to be put to the bar, and having placed the awful cap his head, proceeded, with impressive solemnity, to address the prisoners. His Lordship warned them to entertain no hope of any commutation of the sentence which he had the painful duty of pronouncing. The usual sentence was then passed on the prisoners, and they were instantly removed. Tipperary Free Press, 24 March 1827. Waterford Assizes. The following is a list of the convictions and sentences of prisoners at this Assizes: City.— ... —Michael Barry and Denis Bryan to be hanged on the 28th April; ... Limerick Chronicle, 28 March 1827. The Waterford Sheriffs have received a respite from the Lord Lieutenant, to stay the execution ofJohn Doyle, John Walsh, and Michael Barry, who were sentenced to be hanged on Saturday next, the 14th inst. It is supposed the sentence will be commuted to transportation for life. Limerick Chronicle, 14 April 1827.
