30/7/1831: Newcastle Courant Tyne and Wear, England: DURHAM SUMMER ASSIZES Thos. Armstrong, aged 23, John Stewart, 26, John Barker, 25, John Smith, 26 David Johnson, 25 Bartholomew Stephenson, 18, and Isaac Ecclestone, 28, pitmen, were severally charged with having feloniously entered the house of Thomas Jewitt, at Hedworth, on the 28th of April last, demanded money and meat, assaulted him, and stolen two guns, his property. The facts were clearly proved against the prisoners, who appeared to have acted with considerable violence. Judgement of death was recorded, and it was intimated to the prisoners that they would be transported for 7 years. All were on board the Isabella. 1832: Bartholomew Stephenson age 23, Assigned to the A.A. Company, Newcastle. 5/7/1832: Miner assigned to Aust. Agricultural Co, Port Stephens 18/5/1844: TOL, Newcastle. 30/7/1847: CP. 1855: Married Christian Melville at St. Andrew's, Sydney. 18/3/1871 Sydney Morning Herald: On the 17th instant, at Ryde, CHRISTIAN, the beloved wife of BARTHOLOMEW STEPHENSON, aged 60 years. 6/6/1879 Sydney Morning Herald: Marriages STEPHENSON—MELVELL—May 13, at St. John's, Newcastle, Bartholomew Stephenson, to Mary Melvell. 24/4/1894: Bartholomew Stephenson died at Ryde, Sydney, and was buried at the Church of England Cemetery, Ryde. 25/4/1894 The Maitland Daily Mercury, NSW: Bartholomew Stephenson, one of the pioneers of the Newcastle district, died yesterday morning at Ryde. He arrived in Newcastle over half a century ago, and worked for the A. A. Company for many years as blacksmith, etc., which position is now occupied by his nephew, John Stephenson. The deceased was uncle by marriage of the Chairman of Committees.
