Francis Bassett was transported along with William Carbis Sen., and William Carbis Jnr., a father, son and son-in-law, for stealing 2 ewe sheep belonging to Miss Borlasse, of Madron, Wales in December 1812. When they were to be arrested, it was found all 3 had absconded from the area so police could not make the arrests. 7/11/1806: Francis married Ann Carbis, daughter of William Snr. No children found. Ann did not migrate to Australia. Francis's father was William Bassett, born 1762 and his mother was Jane Matthews, they were married 13/9/1784. They had 9 children, who were all listed as paupers, many having died early in life. Francis's brother John, who married Martha Carbis in 1812 in Madron, migrated to Australia in 1852 along with his wife and most of his married children. 5/12/1816: Forwarded to Windsor for distribution. 1819-1821: On lists of convicts maintained by William Cox, free of expense to the crown. 17/10/1821: Recommended for a TOL 11/10/1826: Sydney Gazette: Francis Bassett appeared in Court very much bruised; indeed he had been severely beaten, so that it was found necessary that he should lose a little blood, and a vein had been opened while in the watch-house, It was proved he was the assailant. Drunkenness was the cause; but he had paid very dear for his festivity to Bacchus. " As the body weakens, the mind decays;" so it was with Francis Bassett, his body was weakened and his mind depressed with the horrors arising from a series of drunken miseries. Complaint dismissed. 1/6/1827: Age 45, TOL: Permission to marry Elizabeth Jones, Neptune 1, aged 45, free, at Richmond NSW. (Did not find the marriage listed in the NSW BDM). Sydney 1835: NSW Gaol Admissions, 1818-1930 - Francis Bassett, Ocean, Protestant, Labourer. No date of death found.
