William Bates was convicted at Middlesex, London 19/02/1829. 7yr sentence. Transported to NSW, Australia on the 'Lady Harewood'. Free, by servitude 24/03/1836. Further conviction, Sydney, NSW, 11/07/1839 - assault & robbery (street robbery and stealing). Life sentence. Protestant; single man; painter & glazier; 5'2"; aged 30yrs; sallow complexion; dk brown hair; dk brown eyes. Native Place: Maryabone Sent to Norfolk Island 26/08/1839. Transported to Van Diemen's Land per 'Lady Franklin' 12/10/1845. Probation Gang - Port Cygnet 26.10.1845. Emerged from Gang 15/05/1846. 17/08/1847 Ticket of Leave 05/02/1850 Conditional Pardon
