National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/30/171819 - 1823 Prisoner name(s): George Parsons Bath. Court and date of trial: Nottingham Summer Assizes 1819. Crime: Felony - breaking into and stealing silver spoons from the house and shop of Thomas Osborn of Red Street Nottingham on 13 January 1819. Initial sentence: Seven years transportation. Annotated (Outcome): 'To be further considered when he is recommended from the hulks' R Peel. Petitioner(s): 34 people including the prosecutor. 4 people including his parents. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Two respectable persons swore that Bath was in bed at the time of the robbery; he has served half of his sentence; he has behaved well on the hulks; he has an offer of reemployment; he promises to reform. Other papers: A letter from Thomas Denman, MP forwarding and supporting the petition in 1821. A letter from Thomas Denman asking Mr Peel to review the case. Additional Information: Indicted with three others.

George Bath was 30 years old on arrival. He had been transported before for Burglary, but spent 4 years on the hulk "Retribution" at Sheerness as his punishment. George's proper name was George Parsons Bath. George was 5'10" tall, grey eyes, dark brown hair. Married: Wife Frances Bath and 2 children, Thomas and Emma with their mother. 1830: Assigned to Captain McLean. 1832-35: Was a Constable. 15/6/1836: Sentence remitted for capture of 2040-Alfred Stallard and 2141-Thomas Smith. 3/11/1841: CP 23/5/1852: Departed Launceston to Melbourne per "City of Melbourne", he had a CP.
