Henry BATT was convicted at Southampton, England on 26 Feb 1831 for stealing a gun lock. Gaol Report: "bad, had been in prison before, poaching". 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'William Glen Anderson' arriving 1 Nov 1831. Single man; aged 23yrs; 6' height; ploughman. Father: William Batt 2 brothers & 2 sisters VDL: Assignments of work service. Received a Ticket of Leave. 1837: Stealing & killing a ewe sheep, the property of R. O'Connor Esq. Committed for trial. Acquitted, for want of sufficient evidence. Deprived of his Ticket of Leave. Put on 6 months probation at Grass Tree Hill.
