Henry Baylis was convicted at Surrey in December 1840 for stealing a pen. Previous for housebreaking. 7yr sentence. Sent to Parkhurst Prison for Boys, Isle of Wight (2yrs 9mths - had received 20 lashes for misconduct). Further transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Mandarin' arriving 16 Oct 1843. Single; carpenter and shoemaker; Protestant; can read and write. Native place - London. In VDL, 1 yr Probation period - at Browns River.
