Convict Notes




Joseph Beach and Samuel Mowbray, for stealing foreign wheat from a vessel in Grimsby Roads . Stamford Mercury, 7 Mar 1817. Joseph Beach, aged ?, and Samuel Mowbray, aged ?, mariners, were put trial for stealing on the 9th December from the brig Anna Maria, then lying in Grimsby Roads, four quarters of foreign corn, the property of Messrs. John Todd, Wm. Todd, and Peter Wedd, merchants, of Hull.—The witnesses were, Edw. Brawn, tide-surveyor, and William Kitchen who watched for the return of the boat in which the prisoners went to commit the robbery; Joshua Chapman, boatman, who was hired to convey the prisoners to the vessel; and Turner, who proved the hiring of Chapman by Bench.—The Jury found both the prisoners Guilty. The following convicts under sentence of transportation, were delivered on board the Bellerophon hulk, from Lincoln Castle, on the ult. Viz. … Joseph Beach, … for the term of seven years each; Stamford Mercury, 13 June 1817.
