1823 Journey. SHIP News.— The ship Woodman, Captain Ford, arrived from Ireland, via Rio de Janiero, on Wednesday evening the 25th ult. She brings 94 female convicts, in good health; together with 8 children. Including children, there are 38 free passengers, by this opportunity, mostly destined for Van Diemen's Land. TICKET OF LEAVE: 1841: Muster - Henry Bean per Woodman is listed as having a Ticket of Leave (see New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849). MISSING: 1849: Muster - Henry Bean per Woodman is listed as "Missing" (see New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849). This suggests the suggestion that he absconded, or was lost or met with foul play.
FOOTNOTE: Henry Bean's Conduct Record Part 1 has a notation in red ink (very faded) that says he was transported for stealing from a person, but the convict's own description of the crime calls it highway robbery of 20 pounds. He also had a previous conviction for stealing turnips (1 month in jail). On arrival in VDL, he was 19 and single (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-1$init=CON31-1-1p320). Part 2 of his Conduct Record notes that he was "Struck off the Record in December 1853", which suggests that he absconded and was never caught (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-1$init=CON34-1-1P640).
The following capital convicts were removed on Tuesday morning last the county gaol Bedford last the county gaol Bedford to the Justitia hulk. at Woolwich, pursuant to their respective sentences ;—George Coslin, Francis Hewlett, Benjamin Parsons, Thomas Tailor, William Pateman, Wm. Hawkins, Henry Walters, Wm. Freeman, and Henry Bean; severally transported for and during the term of their natural lives. Windsor and Eton Express, 3 Sept 1825.
Henry was listed as 19 on arrival. 1830-1835 Musters: Assigned to Messrs Robertson. His conduct record is empty, no TOL or CP found on trove.
