He was tried with his brother for house breaking in Mad/eley & stealing copper coins at Stafford Assizes, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 8 1820 after a voyage of 4months on EARL ST VINCENT; he was Protestant. He had a relationship with Barbara (Styles) emancipist & received permission to marry her on 20 6 1826 which he did on 25 7 1826 at Christ Church Newcastle. He is recorded in 1828 as sawyer with his wife at Newcastle. John was tried and convicted at Staffordshire, with his brother, Samuel. They were tried for the crime of burglariously breaking into a dwelling house at Madley, Staffordshire and stealing a quantity of copper coins and a £1 note. They were found guilty and both sentenced to transportation for Life. Both brothers were aboard "Earl St Vincent".
