Tried at the Old Bailey, 16 April 1817. 745. WILLIAM BEECHAM was indicted for stealing, on the 1st of March , one watch, value 2l.; one watch-chain, value 1s.; and two seals, value 1s.; the property of Thomas Rowland , from his person . THOMAS ROWLAND . I am a labourer . On the 1st of March. I saw the prisoner walking just by Red-lion-street, in Gray's-inn-lane - A person asked me what time it was, and I missed my watch. EDWARD MORRIS . I am a gardener, and live in Gray's-inn-lane, and saw the prisoner very busy among the crowd, looking at the Welch children-he looked at the prosecutor, and followed him to Red-lion-street. I saw him get between the prosecutor and his friend, and push round. I did not see him take the watch. Rowland missed his watch immediately, and secured the prisoner. I found the watch in his small-clothes, by his thigh. WILLIAM BOND . I saw the prisoner with his hands in his trowsers, and saw the watch taken from him. (Property produced and sworn to.) GUILTY . Aged 13. Transported for Life . Second Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Recorder.
