On the ledger from the "Hulk" Dolphin moored at Chatham, with gaoler’s reports, 1829-1835: John was married with 1 child, he could read and write. He was with Thomas Willott aged 22, John was 23 they were charged with breaking into a dwelling house and stealing a chest of drawers, linen and silver spoons, a gun and provisions. They were sentenced to death but commuted to life, and to board the David Lyons. His character was listed as bad with bad connections, he had a quiet disposition.
