Samuel Belasco's life is chronicled in the book "A FEW FROM AFAR - Jewish Lives in Tasmania from 1804", edited by Peter and Ann Elias and published 2003 by The Hobart Hebrew Congregation. From a family of Sephardic Jewish background (Jews exiled from Spain and Portugal during the inquisition). Converted to Christianity during his later life in Tasmania. Married Ann Tilsed, but no children recorded in their marriage.
