He left behind a wife and four children. He was granted freedom in 1854 and on 17 Mar 1856 married Catherine Hurley, also a convict. They had one known child together, William Bell, born in Hobart on 17 Oct 1857 who went on to settle in NSW and marry Emily Moldon Elliott.
