Family connections for John (Benn) are: BENN John (Benn) was born about 1769. He was tried for theft of hats of William (Wheeler) in New Sarum at Wiltshire Assizes at Salisbury on 5 7 1788, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 21 9 1791 after a voyage of 7.5months on HMS GORGON. He was an emancipist when he married firstly Eliza Lydia (Griffin her first relationship) on 16 8 1814 at St Matthews CofE Sydney. He had settled at Hawkesbury when he died on 10 12 1815 age about46 & was buried/cremated, as (Benn/Burn) emancipist, at St Matthews CofE Windsor. [Some details taken from this Website] Eliza Lydia (Griffin) was born on 4 3 1794 & baptised on 29 6 1794 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. Eliza Lydia (Griffin) married secondly John (McDonald) on 20 8 1817 at Christ Church Castlereagh & produced 4children. She was recorded in 1828 with her family at Pitt Town.
