Joseph Bennett, alias Joseph Berry, 30, for stealing from the dwelling-house of Joseph Stone, at Leigh, two pair of cotton trousers, five sheets, three waistcoasts. and other articles; also certain money to the value of five pounds and more, to wit, to the value of £?, his property. Pleaded Guilty—Transported for life; and sent to the more penal settlements. It will be remembered that this prisoner was convicted of burglary at the last March Assizes, sentenced to be transported for fourteen years. contrived, however, to make his escape, and being again brought to this gaol was immediately recognised. South Eastern Gazette, 22 March 1836. -------------------------------------------------- The undermentioned convicts were last week removed from the county goal and put on board the Fortitude hulk, at Chatham :—James Thurthill, John Sawyer, John Hayes, William Sawyer, John Andrews, James Dabin, and Joseph Bennett, transported for life. - John Reuben, Charles Brisley, and John Smith, transported for 14 years.— James Taylor, James Scott, Charles Choat, and Timothy Reardon, transported for 7 years.
