Convict Notes
Salisbury On Tuesday were committed to Gaol, for trial at the Quarter-Sessions, George Fry, charged with having stolen some garden tools and basket, the property of the Rev. George Fox, of Codford; Jane Fry, Elizabeth Fry, and Phoebe Bennett, on suspicion having knowingly received the said stolen property. Salisbury and Winchester Journal, 15 June 1807.
NSW Census 1828, at Prospect. Phoebe Bennett, age 39, F.S. per Yowlis 1806, 7 year sentence, housekeeper to above (William Silk), protestant. In the household of William Silk, age 65, T.L., per Britannia 1791, Life, settler, catholic. William Silk signed his X, and the form was completed by the District constable, J Riley. (The ship Yowlis, is a “spelling as pronounced” of Aeolis, and the dates of the ships on the form appear not to be the correct ones, - William Silk arrived in Britannia in 1797.)
