This Thomas Bennett was not the son of Thomas Bennett and Sarah Ricketts. Date of trial was 1st Aug 1833 Surrey Assizes. He was given a death sentence and transported for life. His offence was highway robbery for stealing a watch, Basingstoke and Oldham note and 3 sovereigns from William Darton of Egham. He arrived 15 Feb on the ship Fairlie.

Old Bailey 17/10/1833: THOMAS BENNETT was indicted for stealing, on the 4th of October , 1 hat, value 6s. , the goods of Samuel Adams . HENRY SANDERS . I live with Mr. Samuel Adams, he is a hatter . On the evening of the 4th of October, about nine o'clock, the prisoner came to buy a hat; I showed him several; I asked him 6s. 6d. for this one, he offered me 6s., which I agreed to take; he then said he wanted it made more fashionable - more narrow in front; I went to the end of the shop to get the iron to do it, when I missed the prisoner and the hat - I went out and turned up a court by the side of our house, where I saw him with the hat - I pursued him, and called, "Stop thief;" I did not lose sight of him till he was taken. GEORGE HARTLEY . I was going up Elder-street, and heard the cry of "Stop thief;" I saw the prisoner running, with this hat in his hand; I stopped him, and this witness came and took him. GEORGE JOHNSON (police-constable, H 134). I took the prisoner, and have the hat. Prisoner's Defence. I was going down Elder-street, I saw a young man run with this hat and drop it; a man stopped me, and they took me back to the shop, and gave me into custody. GUILTY . Aged 26. - Transported for Seven Years. Son of Thomas and Sarah Ricketts. 4/6/1841: COF 26/3/1845: Married Mary Ann Lloyd at St Peters, Cooks River ~ 9 children. Mary Ann was the daughter of Thomas Lloyd (Asia 1825) and Rebecca Bone. Mary Ann died 9/4/1907 aged 80 at Wollongong. 16/8/1865: Thomas died at Canterbury NSW aged 55.

First Thomas Bennett claimed as my Great Great Grandfather, the age doesn't tally so I am inclined to dismiss this option.
