Hulk Records. HO-9-4-4. Page 21 Justitia Hulk Received 3 May 1826. William Bennett, age 21, Highway Robbery. Tried at Derby Assizes, 15 Mar 1826, Life, Transported 26 July 1826. Derby Assizes, sentence of death was recorded against W. Bennett and W. Lingard, for highway robbery. Lingard committed the robbery in company with Bennett, within view of the gibbet on which the bleaching bones of his brother were hanging, who was executed on the I8th of March, 1815, for the wilful murder of Hannah Oliver, a poor widow, the toll-house keeper, Wardlaw Mires.  Worcester Journal, 30 March 1826.

William Bennett was transported along with William Lingard (also on board) for Highway Robbery. 1828 Census: William was a shepherd assigned to William Carter, Piercefield, Hunter River. 1839: TOL, Up Williams River. 30/7/1847: CP
