Charged with being an accessory to aiding others to steal stores from the Orphan School, New Town where he was employed as a Constable. (Ref. Hobart Courier 19 Feb 1841). Ticket of Leave 20/10/1842 2nd CONVICTION: Oatlands, Tasmania 04/01/1848 - receiving wearing apparel from Mrs. Waterhouse at Swan Port. 14yr sentence. 2yrs Probation - to Port Arthur Penal settlement. 1848 Personal details: aged 37yrs; married; lt grey eyes; ruddy complexion; lt brown hair; Protestant; can read & write; blacksmith; vaccination marks both arms. From Ripon, Yorkshire. 27/02/1849 Port Arthur: misconduct in given a prisoner bread - 3mths hard labour, in chains. 1852: Tunbridge, Prison Barracks Hobart. 30 days gained by task work. 10/10/1854: Ticket of Leave (Cornwall Chronicle 21 Oct 1854) (16/02/1864: Wife Elizabeth brought before Court, Hobart to be of surety for good behaviour. Native place of birth - Edinburgh, Scotland. Assignments of service in Colony, including being a Constable. Application for permission to marry approved - to Elizabeth Henry or Henny. Ref. 1032/1841-37/2. Listed as a Colonial Family.
