Stealing a Watch. George Benson and Eleanor Johnston, for stealing a watch, the property of Samuel Askin, at Armagh, on 20th November. : Samuel Askin examined—Lost a watch in this town in Nov. last ; it was taken out of his pocket ; missed it in 3 or 4 minutes after ; it was taken from him at the market house on a market day ; it was shown to him next day by Mr. Starr, and lodged with Captain Winder. James Starr, pawnbroker—identified the watch; Eleanor Johnston, the prisoner, offered it to him in Pawn; witness refused lending her money on it until the next day, when, if it was not claimed, he would ; some time after Eleanor Johnston and the other prisoner, George Benson, came into his shop, and asked for the watch ; witness refused giving it ; Benson claimed the watch, and Johnston said he was her husband ; Benson was making a noise about the watch, and he gave them both into custody of the police. Guilty ; to be transported 7 years, Newry Telegraph, 28 March 1828.
