23/8/1896 Oxford University and City Herald Oxfordshire, England: Maria Bentley, otherwise Hannah Smith, for stealing two silver tea-spoons, seven or eight shillings, crown piece, &.C. Lived with James Daley – no marriage listed on BDM. James Daley was about 24 years old when he arrived on the ‘Hercules 1802’. C1808 he started living with Maria Bentley – they had at least 9 children together. 1813: James Daley was granted 45 acres on the Nepean River at Wallacia. In July 1814 two of his infant children were killed by a Gandangara raiding party. Five Aborigines were accused of the murders. James and the family abandoned the farm soon after.
Married /Defacto James Daley (Irish Convict arrived Hercules 1 in 1802). Daughter of Joseph Bentley & Elizabeth Dent (DNA match confirmed same). Born Warwickshire, England circa 1788.
